My 2017 UIB Moment: Taking the podium

My 2017 UIB Moment: Taking the podium

2017 has been an amazingly challenging year full of good surprises. I can't name one moment that has been the highlight. Looking back, every event, every meeting has been a new learning point.

Being an accountant in my previous job and desk-bound most of the time, the extent of travel that I have done is spectacular, feeding my wanderlust and meeting clients, vendors and like-minded individuals hungry for innovative solutions. I get to learn so much about the technology that is shaping our universe.

One of my most favourite memories of the year is being a moderator at CommunicAsia in May 2017. It was a very different kind of challenge and an equally rewarding experience. The theme of the discussion was how IoT can be more unified and not fragmented, something I personally feel very strongly about. I shared a panel with some great minds discussing how breaking the silo and implementing the right regulations would benefit businesses positively.

Since I was a child, I was never a tech-savvy girl and spent more time sticking my nose in a book. In 2017, I definitely became a techie. I carried our connected coffee machine to various demos in Jakarta and Hanoi and learned how to troubleshoot the machine and handle situations on stage ensuring the presentations go well and all works perfectly. Before joining UIB, I had a fear of public speaking, but after speaking at different IoT events in Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia, I have grown to like the stage and to showcase our amazing technology to the world.

Looking back at 2017, this and so many other moments show me how I have had experiences which would have never happened if I wasn’t in UIB. I look back at such memories and don’t think, “Hey, this is not me”, I now think “Hey, I have come a long way!”

I know 2018 is going to be as exciting as 2017 has been, both professionally and personally.

Great reading about your 2017 experience!
